The Witness to Jesus is the Spirit of the Prophecy: Revelation 17:1-19:10

The 6th Heptad of the Revelation (Rev. 17:1-19:10) unfolds The LORD God's detailed judgment of the Mysterious Woman on the Scarlet Beast (Rev. 17:6) which symbolizes the totalitarian, brutal and nearly invincible civil authority exercised by the Woman, the Great Harlot. Her scarlet color testifies to her bloodshed of the righteous, the people of God.

The Woman is the Great City of antiquity, Babylon, which became the symbol for the City of the World. In John's day, she was Rome. Fallen, Fallen Babylon the Great is the message delivered by the Angel Gabriel (Rev. 18:1) as the City of the World is judged. Babylon is never used symbolically for Jerusalem.

From Rev. 1:1 to Rev. 19:10b, the Apocalypse testifies to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ Who possesses the fullness of the Holy Spirit without limitation (John 3:34). The Coming of the Holy Spirit upon all of the people of God from the Savior's unlimited resource is the ultimate witness to Jesus. The Witness to Jesus is The Spirit of The Prophecy.

The Author of the Prophecy is The Spirit. Like an artist, with time and the History of Special Revelation as His canvas, and the unfolding of the Covenant of Grace as colors of His palette, the Spirit brings us to the Consummation and the final exaltation of our LORD Jesus Christ. In this last Book of the Bible, the Holy Spirit draws the entire Bible to focus upon Jesus. The Apocalypse is a book about Jesus and a book from Jesus by the working of His Spirit to the glory of God the Father.

If our conversations and thoughts about the Apocalypse focus upon things other than Jesus' triumph over sin, death, and the Devil, we miss the point of this Prophecy. We may consequently also miss its blessing. The purpose of this commentary, Revelation: The Book of Blessing, is to focus your attention on the LORD Jesus Christ and the blessedness that belongs to those who trust Him for their salvation. Amen.
